Foundation skills

This series will focus on teaching your gundog the essential foundation skills. This workshop will focus on hunting.

Time: 10am to 12pm

Location in July and August: Oakhurst Farm, Loxwood

Location from September: Haslemere, Surrey
These monthly workshops will focus on handler skills and teaching your gundog the essential foundation skills they need - whether you intend to work them on a shoot, or just want a happy and fulfilled pet gundog.

These sessions are suitable for young dogs of all breeds, just starting out on their gundog journey, or for older dogs with no experience of gundog work. They are also suitable for handlers with no experience of clicker training.

The level is foundation, and is designed for anyone working towards The Gundog Club Grade 1 and Grade 2, plus Novice Dog/Novice Handler Working Tests.

Content will be topic-based each month including clicker training, heelwork, stop whistle, self control and motivation, the retrieve pattern and delivery and hunting.

Each session will cover one main topic as well as the principles of clicker training and building valuable rewards in play that can be used to add strength to other behaviours.

It is up to you whether you attend the whole course or just book on individual sessions.

You do not need to have attended any of the previous sessions to book on, although we do recommend that if you have never trained with Teach Your Gundog before you book an initial 121 session so we can assess exactly where you are at with your training and which group class will be most suitable for your individual dog.
